I ran outside again.  It was over 60 today!  Crazy.

It was pretty dark when I ran and that made me a little nervous.  I'm not logging this as fast because I didn't wear my watch, but it was faster than normal.

I always wear my watch. I think I'm addicted to data.

ALso, I wear a headlamp when I run in the dark. My husband says I look like a miner.

I don't run enough in the dark because of my paranoia about getting jumped. That's also one of the reasons that I joined the gym this winter. But that is a pretty good idea, even if it does make you look like a miner.

Whether or not I wear my watch is dependent on my workout. If I'm going easy I never wear it. And for at least the next week, while I'm transitioning from the treadmill, I'm going to be running at mostly easy paces.

And I'm just going to have to accept the running in the dusk/dark, but maybe run the 2 mile loop around my neighborhood over and over, depending on how long I want to go.

I'm nervous about my upcoming 1/2 marathon. I had really wanted to race it, but now I'll probably just run it. I guess since I'm pretty slow anyway there isn't a huge difference.

Perhaps I have a false sense of security in this bedroom community that I live in.

When is your 1/2 marathon?

From Tracy on Tue, Feb 10, 2009 at 13:59:02

I live in Rantoul. It is a strange community. There used to be an Air Force base here and when it closed, all of the military housing was left behind. Then Rantoul panicked because they lost a significant portion of their population and advertised housing in the inner cities of Chicago and St. Louis.

So the point of this is that part of Rantoul (where I live) is idyllic, but not far from me (I run past, but not through it) is the worst area of Rantoul. Like there's a lot of gangs that operate there.

I've never seen anything fishy, but I'm still cautious.

Oh. And my 1/2 marathon is in early April.

We drove up to Rantoul and took the train back to Champaign/Urbana one time just so that the kids could ride the train. Other than that, I don't really have any experience with Rantoul. I used to run around a cornfield south of Champaign (in the thriving metropolis of Savoy) in the early mornings, but I did it with a friend and I don't remember doing it in the dark. It was many years ago.
