Well.  I think I have maybe possibly found the answer to my problems.  I have low estrogen levels and poly-cystic ovaries, which leads to a probable diagnosis of something called thin women PCOS (usually women who have PCOS are obese and pre-diabetic.  They also tend to have lots of body hair.  Not me!).  I've probably always had this so it seems miraculous that I was able to conceive two kids with no trouble.  I don't know if this is the real diagnosis for that reason, but my dr. did provide a plausible explanation for that.  I'm actually crossing my fingers, though, because the other possibility would lead to surgery and possibly a hysterectomy (that my insurance would likely not cover).

So I go on glucophage Monday to try to regulate my hormones.  It sounds like it is not going to be particularly pleasant.  I am not supposed to eat carbs, which is a problem because I love carbs.  The dr. scared me with her description of the possible problems associated with this medication.  Carbs will lead to GI issues, which I am prone to anyway.

And then I will be reevaluated in 2 months to see if that helps.  If not, I don't know what is the next step.

At any rate, I'll be back to running on Monday, but I am going to take it real easy.  Real easy.

Has anyone been on the South Beach diet?  That's what I'm supposed to do.  It doesn't sound too bad, but I don't know if I mentioned how much I love carbs.  And sugar.  I really love sugar.

I essentially eat the same thing every day right now anyway (cereal for breakfast, peanut butter and jelly for lunch and some sort of meat with veggies and fruit for dinner), but since cereal and a sandwich are out, I would be okay if I could find 3 things that aren't too carby that I could eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Any suggestions?

Oh wow that is a lot. Best of luck to you. I did the atkins diet for a while 8 or 9 years ago. Low-carb is tough. I made breakfast burritos with low carb tortillas, lots of salad bar trips with meat and cheese on the salads, and mashed cauliflower is freaking awesome and not nearly as carby as potatoes. Good luck with the diet!

Sno would be a great person to email about the low carb. She eats less than 50 g a day!

Any who I'm trying to be better about lower carb. Most days for b-fast I eat scrambled eggs with cheese in them and salsa. And bacon and a cheese stick.

Lunch I still have my sandwich with meat and cheese but it is a low carb bread (I swear the bread is just thinner) I read that berries are the best foods to eat as (strawberries, blueberrie etc) as far as low carb. Stay away from bananas they have like 35 g in them! (very surprising to me)

and dinner I eat chicken/steak/fish/pork chops and veggies with butter or cheese and I still eat a potato. I thnk you can do sweet potatoes and be okay.

I hope this helped. Basically meat and cheese are your new staples.

Oh and I have a friend at work withthat diagnosis. She is very big in her tummy area. But I thought she said that was b/c she had high estrogen levels. She said it took her 7 years to get preggers. She has two now. I"m sorry about your diagnosis but I"m glad it isn't running related.

Hopefully it's somewhat of a relief for you to know what it is and get some answers. Good luck Tracy, I'm hoping for the non-surgical possibility for you.

Wish I could help on the low-carb tips, I got nothing..

I am with Slow Joe. At least you may have some idea what you are dealing with, so you can start to make the necessary changes. Medications are never fun. And very few carbs, ugh. But if you start feeling better then it will be worth it.

The little guy I take care of has major food allergies (gluten, soy, eggs, dairy products etc.) His mom has found a lot of food for him in the specialty section at the grocery store. Just have to do a lot of label reading and research. Good luck and take care.
