I have not missed XC at all.  In fact, I have secretly celebrated my decision every day that I have walked out of school and XC is in the throes of practice.

BUT I did get a little teary-eyed when a runner came to my room between classes and handed the 1.5 foot high wooden XC sign with my name painted on it.  He thought I'd like to have mine before they got ready to paint over last year's athletes with the current crop.

He was right.

OH, how thoughtful of him! Pardon me if I have asked before, but what do you teach?

This was just step 1 of their plan to lure you back.

I hope you didn't tear up in front of the student. You can't show them any weakness. :P

Bonnie--I thought so too. It was a nice gesture.

April--I teach English. Seniors. It is pretty enjoyable.

Joe--I'm afraid to ask anyone how the new coach is, so I've avoided asking about XC. I bet they don't want me back :)

Burt--I showed no fear (but I did kinda turn away toward my desk while I put it in a prominent place). It only took a second to get back to my normal emotionless state.
