Got out at 4:45 for 5 miles.  Nice and easy, about 9:30 avg. This week my goal is to just put in about 5 miles a day and then try to go a little longer on Saturday after I get back from class.

This is why I hate morning running:

1)  I wake up a lot because I am paranoid that my alarm is not set correctly.

2)  My foot is always howling in the morning.  My gait was abnormal for about 1.5 miles.

This is why I like morning running:

1)  It is pretty and peaceful.

2) Less wind (and this time of the year, much cooler).

3)  I will have more time in the evening (tonight it's all about cleaning and organizing)

Now that I have no long races in sight, I am going to try to run in the mornings.  I think I am going to just shoot for 30-40 mpw until school is out, so it won't be too tough to get those miles before school.  I can do about 6 and still be on time.

Great job getting out early this morning! I like your plan. I'd be inclined to do the same thing if I didn't still have a big race on the horizon.

I don't really have your same reasons for hating morning running, but I just have a hard time getting up and out the door. However, I agree with your reasons for liking morning running.

I think that as soon as I get used to running in the morning, I won't be as paranoid about my alarm. We'll see about the foot thing. It was more painful than usual after the race, but it feels 75% good(which is normal) right now.

I used to wake up early with the alarm as well. Now that I have been running in the morning longer, it doesn't happen as often. The waking up will get better. My ankle hurts sometimes in the morning and I think it is because I just rolled out of bed. So I understand your early morning hatreds. I also agree with the reasons to like morning runs, the best being it is done and the rest of the day is free.

morning runs are so peaceful, yet so early. i struggle with morning but i think that the hotter it gets the more i will get up before the sun. i cringe at that thought right now.

I enjoy early morning runs the best, but sorely lack the willpower to get up that early!! What is your foot howling about?

I think you have a good plan until your summer vacation.

I like your lists; to add to it, I feel out of shape in the morning, like my lungs are angry at me, but I like that I can have Burger King or similar crap for lunch and not care about what it will do to my run.

NIce plan! I like it!

Now that it's raining, I like the fact that I'm already done even more! Carolyn and Michelle, maybe I'll be like you guys some day, or maybe this experiment will last until, I don't, know, tomorrow.

KP--I hear you about the heat forcing even earlier running times. And Joe, I don't know if your reason for loving mornings (the eating) is a good thing or a bad thing, but I certainly know what you mean. I think, though, that I do the old "I can have this because I ran already" a little too much as it is :)

Adele, I have PF. It is bad after fast days, especially in the morning. Because I'm on my feet all day at work, usually it is not so stiff or sore by the afternoon.

From seeaprilrun on Tue, May 04, 2010 at 09:26:32 from 72.205.231.223

I struggle with early morning running if I do not have a little coffee before. It is hard to get up. Sorry about your foot, my PF acted the same way. I was usually hobbling around right after a race too. Are you taping it? A restful week of 5 a days sounds good.
