Honestly, this was the worst run I've had in a long time, and I'm not quite sure I actually understand what happened.

When I was getting ready, it started hailing outside, so I headed to the gym.  Once I got there my plan was a warm up, 3 miles at 1/2 marathon pace, 2 800s at 10K pace, and 6 200s.

But the run was bad from the start.  9:40 pace felt too fast.  I warmed up for 2 miles, then sped up the treadmill to 8 min pace.  After .28, I just stopped.  I tried to talk myself into it, but I just couldn't get going again.  I thought maybe if I started slow and then worked my way into 8 min. pace I could do it, but it just wasn't happening.  So I just dropped the speed on the treadmill to a tolerable pace, every once in a while I would speed it up a little, and got to 5.5 and then hightailed it out of there.

It was really hot in there and my hands were swelling up.  I felt thirsty even though I drank an entire water bottle after the failed attempt at going faster.  I don't think I drank enough water during the day, and I'm not sure if maybe eating a light dinner before hand was the culprit.  I have also recently lost 3 pounds--even though I have been making a concerted effort to eat more because I think my body fat percentage is interfering with my cycle.  My percentage isn't ridiculously low (and it was measured electronically, not using calipers), but I've been interested in what I've been reading about body fat and pregnancy.

Now I will just try to forget it happened.  Maybe I'll do that workout on Saturday, but maybe not.

Sounds like a bad run. Sometimes they happen to me, usually for no rhyme or reason, although I try to think up reasons. Nothing wrong with bagging the workout and doing it again another day when you are "on". Sounds brutal anyway, 3 miles at 1/2mp + 10k pace? Yowza I don't know if I could hang with that kind of workout on a good day!

I'm sorry. I wrote that badly. That should be 3 miles at 1/2 marathon pace and then 2 800s at 10K pace. I wasn't thinking. Now it doesn't sound so terrible, right?

Sorry for the bad run today. Just remember how strong and great you felt during Tuesday's run!!! You flew thru your warmup, mp miles, and intervals!!

I'd blame how you felt today on not fueling. (I lost my appetite earlier this week, and my legs were absolutely dead, even walking up my basement stairs was tiring! Had to basically force myself to start eating whether I was hungry or not, and then my energy level came bounding back. Go peanut butter & honey sandwiches!!)

Or maybe someone before you set the incline higher than you're used to. You won't notice 3-4% on a TM by looking at it, but you'll sure feel it while running!

BTW, about 30+ years ago I was very thin and it did affect my cycle.

I'm sorry you had such a tough time. It sounds like maybe you were dehydrated and maybe it was too hot in the gym.

Don't let one bad run get you down and I'm sure your next run will be better.

Sounds better but still a tough workout! The funny thing about me is over the last year and a half I have started running and lost 20 pounds and my cycle that had been absent since the birth of my daughter(almost 3) started a few months ago and is regular for the first time in my life! I have heard that being very thin does mess with your cycle and many athletic women do not have one.

From Tracy on Fri, Mar 12, 2010 at 10:48:11 from 209.175.177.37

My cycle has not been regular since Eli's birth (same time as Vanessa was born). At first it was the breast-feeding. But I was trying to get pregnant last May to about October--I had NO issues with getting pregnant with my other two. I thought it was stress that was making me irregular until last month when we did a CPR day at school, and a nurse was here with a hand-held fat body percentage taker (whatever those things are called) and mine was 15.7 (although I don't know how accurate those are compared to the calipers). Then I started looking things up, and I'm sure that's why my period has been so erratic--I can't even predict to the week lately when it is going to come.

Believe me, if I wasn't thinking I wanted to get pregnant, I would be okay with a period that comes once every 2 months.

And the sad thing is that I'd like to lose the fat from around my belly, but of course, that stuff is hanging around...

I hate belly fat. I try not to look at my belly during plank. And I haven' thad kids so what is up with that!

Sorry your run stunk. You will get it back...now go eat some ice cream so you can gain some weight!
