Ran with my brother's dog for 1/2 of this.  He is surprisingly a good running dog--probably because he is such a spaz.  I clipped his leash around my waist, and this was good.  Periodically he would break into a sprint and I'd go with it until I'd had enough--and then I could slow him with the force of my body instead of pulling with my arms.

After 3 miles we made a turn and he went a few steps and then lay down on the grass.  I wasn't too far from home because I didn't think he'd last my whole run.  When I told him we would go back, he took off at a dead sprint.  He really wanted to go home.  So I ran .2 home to drop him off and then continued.

That ws nice of you to take the dog out for a run. I'm sure he enjoyed it. That's funny that he had the energy to sprint once he knew he was going home.

Are you still up for a mile-long virtual race sometime this week/

I am. I've been a bit under the weather with a nagging cough/ respiratory thing, but I think I'll be good by the end of the week. It hasn't really stopped me from running, but it doesn't feel good to go fast yet.

Saturday maybe? Do you want to do it on a track? I'm guessing that might be the easiest comparison.

I'm getting nervous already :)

Yes, we should do it on tracks. That's the closest we can get to similar terrain. We can't do anything about elevation!

Saturday should be good. I usually run on the trail with Team Michelle on Saturdays, but I'll try to get up early and do the mile thing first.

Don't be nervous. It's just a little friendly competition and I bet you'll smoke me.

I think I'm at my most nervous with friendly competition! I don't have much of a competitive streak, but it comes out only when I'm with friends! But I really do think we'll be within 5 seconds of one another. That's my prediction--and who knows who will be faster? I think it could go either way.

I like to have a goal time in mind so I know what my splits should be--I'm shooting for about 6:15, I think.

I don't usually get out too early on Saturdays, but I'll make sure to go out pretty much as soon as I roll out of bed.

Hmm. I wonder if I can pull out a 6:15. I've run that pace for short distances, but never for a full mile.

So are we saying 4 laps on the inside lane of a track?

From Tracy on Tue, Nov 17, 2009 at 12:13:04 from 209.175.177.37

I've also never run that pace for a full mile, but I'm going to try. I will be happy if I can be under 6:30. Some day I would like to run a 6:00 mile.

Just an observation: I know that my strength is my speed and my weakness is my endurance (or lack of it over the long haul). I think you are the opposite--not as fast over the short haul but able to sustain a good pace for long periods of time. So maybe I have the edge in a mile race, but you certainly have the edge in a marathon.

But anyway, it'll be interesting to see how close we are in mile time, since we are so close in the 10K and the 1/2 marathon. I still think you are way faster than you think on short distances, but you haven't raced a 5K in a while, as far as I remember.

So yes, 4 laps on the inside lane.
