It's 72 degrees and 83% humidity.  But to be fair, I ran in thunderstorm conditions.  In fact, wunderground says we're having thunderstorms, but we're not.

However, when I started my run, I could see lightning to the east.  It was far enough for me not to be concerned.  As I hit mile 1, it started to sprinkle, and I was a bit worried.  But it didn't start to rain.  Through mile 2 I was going west, and the skies were clear in the distance.  Then I turned, and to the north, I could see the rain falling from the clouds in misty streaks.  There was lightning in the distance, probably at least 15 miles away though.

I started my run late, only because I was finishing perhaps the worst book I've ever read.  It ranks right down there with Cider House Rules, which I only kept reading because I really thought it would get better.  It didn't.  The protagonist in this latest terrible book(who was completely unlikeable), closed the book by saying "I've come for my shoes."  So this one stunk from cover to cover, too.

Oh Philippa Gregory.  Stick to historical fiction.  Give me another book about the Tudors, or something.

Ran an easy 5K.  I wasn't sure that I wanted to do it in the first place, but I compromised by just running it.  My goal was an 8:30 pace.  The first two miles of it I ran with the kid's PE teacher.  I knew I was holding her back and finally she listened to me and took off.  The last mile I ran with a kid whose brother is in Caleb's class.  I think he's going into 6th grade.  He was seriously dying, but he ran most of the rest with me, but I couldn't keep him with me in the last 1/4 mile.  I am sure I was pissing him off.  He finished only 15 seconds or so behind me.

I think I ended slightly under 8:30 pace.

It was hot.

Yesterday we cleaned the garage all morning, and I pronounced that and a rousing water gun fight afterward sufficient for a workout.

I also finished a great book that I highly, highly recommend.  It's called Half the Sky and it's about the injustices suffered by women around the globe.  I feel called to action, but I don't know what action yet...The book does give some good steps, though, and I've started looking into some of the aid groups in the appendix.  One site that the book recommends is kiva.org, which I'm familiar with as a banner ad on this site.

Anyway, today I went for a run and Caleb rode his bike with me.  The run was a little long for him.  He got a little tired (and slightly crabby) towards the end, but he did well!
