I bought a used Wii from a coworker last week and she threw in all the games that she had + the Wii Fit.  So I broke that out yesterday out of curiosity.  I played around with the yoga and strength and cardio parts for a 1/2 hour and then decided to go for a short run.  My only complaint after Saturday is a little soreness in my left hamstring.  But it felt fine during and after the run.  I probably should stretch or something.  But I'm sure I won't.

Just an easy 4.  I'm going to take it easy this week while I try to figure out my running plans for the near future.   I want to concentrate on strength training at least for the next few months, so I need to start doing the Shred again.

I realized something yesterday:  I use running as a way to break up the stress of being a working mother.  Yesterday my SIL took the kids after school to work on a project, and so when I got home I had nothing to do till 8.  You would think that would be my opportunity to run, but instead I sat on the couch and watched 2 episodes of Pregnant in Heels.  I've never watched that before.  I can't imagine being as helpless/needy/useless as the pregnant moms on that show.

Then finally I got off the couch and decided to play around with the Wii Fit again.  I don't think I get a good workout, but I did sweat a little.  Then, since I had wasted my running time, I just didn't run, and I didn't really care.

Not sure where I'm going with running now.  I'll probably feel more into it next week, I'm guessing.

Another day of indifference to running.  I actually kinda enjoy the Wii Fit, though I know it does not give me a good workout.  I spent a long time trying to beat my hula hoop record.

I Wii-ed with the kids for a hour.  They like it too.

After a busy day of sleeping in a little (we usually get up for 7:30 mass), mass (we went to 9:00), cleaning (our house was a disaster and is currently immaculate for about 20 more minutes), gardening (planting my mother's day present and cutting down the huge amounts of ornamental grass from last year so that this year's growth could come in), I Wii Fitted for an hour and a half while Chuck took the kids to the farm.  I did pretty much every exercise that I had unlocked, except for the balance stuff.  I didn't mean to do it that long.  I like the yoga and the strength stuff.  Then the rest of the fam came home and after dinner we played some of the balance games.  Caleb likes the ski jump.  He's the best of us at that game.

Hope everyone had a happy Mother's Day.

I definitely have to start running today (it's now Monday).  I fear that if I don't run today I will keep avoiding it.

In my thoughts I am reducing mileage, so since I only did 3, I ran it faster than I would run more miles.  Don't know if that is what I should do or not.  I'm trying now to figure out if I am training for anything now.  I'll figure it out.

And I hate wind.

And it was really hot.

There.  I got out there.  It wasn't a lot, but it was something, right?

Another quick 3 after a Home and School (that's our PTA, I guess) meeting that moved me to volunteer for something that I instantly regretted volunteering for...but it probably won't be too bad.

I was glad that I waited till dusk because it was over 90 during the day.  Though it wasn't much cooler when I ran, at least I know it wasn't over 90 anymore.

Towards the end of my run, when it was pretty dark, I was stopped by a walker.  At first I thought it was this crazy runner that I sorta know, but it was actually a woman with mental retardation who lives in a group home that is not too far away from our house.  I see her walking a lot.  I stopped and talked with her for a couple minutes, but I can't believe whoever's in charge there lets her walk alone in the dark.  She was wearing a reflective vest, but she was wearing all dark clothes underneath.  Hopefully she was just walking to the end of the block and back, but since there were no sidewalks she was walking on the side of a pretty dark road.  I guess in retrospect I probably should have kept an eye on where she was going.  I'm a jerk.

Wii Fit.  Wrote an entry, but forgot to submit.  Now it's lost.  It wasn't interesting anyway.

I ran a 5K today.  I got my rear in gear.  Second gear, maybe.

It was windy, rainy and cold.  It was 46 degrees and I was not suitably dressed because I didn't pack more than a t-shirt and shorts.  I did not warm up more than 2 minutes.  My performance was lackluster.  But the weird thing is that I only got passed by 2 people.  One of them was an old friend's husband (she's not old; I've just known her a long time) in the last 1/2 mile of the race.  I went with him for 2 minutes, then looked down at my watch and saw that I was expending way more energy than I felt like expending (we were at a 7:00 pace) and decided that he wanted it way more than I did.  I finished maybe 15 seconds behind him.

But somehow I still managed to win my age division.  That's questionable, but I guess I'll take it.

4 miles felt good today.  I went faster than I would if I went more than 4 miles, but it still felt easy.  8:44 avg. pace.

I know that I will probably regret wishing the wind away when it's 100 degrees and the air is still, but man this wind is not fun.  It was about 50 with 15 mph wind.  I would have liked a little spring weather this year.  Consistent 70s or so would be nice, but we've either been in the 50s or in the 90s.

Now Jillian is staring at me, asking how big my weight loss goal is.  Do you think she wants me to return to her?  I have given her up in favor of the Wii Fit, which I also played today, just casually with my kids.

I am liking this shorter distance faster speed stuff for the time being.  I did almost 1.5 hours on the Wii, concentrating on the strength training and the yoga poses, then went to my SIL for pizza.  I stayed dressed for running, but wasn't sure I would.  I ate pizza, and then decided that if I wanted to love running again, I'd have to, you know, run.  I ran home from my SIL's adding on enough distance to get to 3.5 miles.  I ran at a little over 8:30 pace.

This was slightly more than 3.5 miles, but I don't know exactly how far, nor do I care.  I know that when I started out I was slightly under 9 minute pace, but my watch died and I think I slowed a little probably, but who can say?  It was nice out today, a little warm, but the wind was nice for a change since it wasn't crazy strong and it helped cool me a little when I was running in the sun.

Anyone have any experience with a garmin that won't charge? Mine died yesterday while I was running, I put it on the cradle, and it won't tell me that the battery is already charging. I tried to reset it last night (mode + start button) and nothing happened. This morning I tried again and got a promising beep + the opening screen, but when I put it back on the charger, still nothing.

Any troubleshooting ideas?  I've been searching, but have not had luck yet.

Well, I finished out a 5 day running week, which is loads better than I did the previous 2 weeks.  The only bad thing was that it was pretty hot during the run.  I should have brought some water but when I left it was overcast.  The sun came out a mile later.  I even ran for a while just in my sports bra, which is something I almost never do.  I kept waiting for someone to yell at me to put it back on because I was blinding them with my pale, pasty skin.  But that never happened, which is a good sign.

I got stopped at about 5.5 miles by a funeral procession.  Luckily I had already put my shirt back at about mile 5 because I was getting ready to run through the middle of town.

Wii.

I can't bring myself to make a decision about running right now.  I'm just not into it, but I don't want to give it up completely.  I am taking a personal day and thought I'd run after sending the kids off to school/daycare, but then I got caught up in weeding instead.

I would like to, I think, go for every other day for right now.  But that would mean I'd have to run sometime today, but I don't know if that's going to happen.  We'll see.

Caleb and I Wii-ed it up.  I did about a 1/2 hour on my own before I got him interested in doing the exercises with me and then we did another 1/2.  It was fun.  He's cute.  He's actually pretty good with the yoga stuff.  The strength stuff, not so much, but he holds his own :)

2 with my bro while we were in Michigan and 1 on my own.  We got out during pretty much the only time it wasn't raining that day.
