I ran a 5K today.  I got my rear in gear.  Second gear, maybe.

It was windy, rainy and cold.  It was 46 degrees and I was not suitably dressed because I didn't pack more than a t-shirt and shorts.  I did not warm up more than 2 minutes.  My performance was lackluster.  But the weird thing is that I only got passed by 2 people.  One of them was an old friend's husband (she's not old; I've just known her a long time) in the last 1/2 mile of the race.  I went with him for 2 minutes, then looked down at my watch and saw that I was expending way more energy than I felt like expending (we were at a 7:00 pace) and decided that he wanted it way more than I did.  I finished maybe 15 seconds behind him.

But somehow I still managed to win my age division.  That's questionable, but I guess I'll take it.

Congrats on your age division win! That's awesome! Considering the weather I, would say you should be very happy with your time! Good job!

Nice job Tracy. Maybe the race should have been called: Get Your Rain Gear.

From SlowJoe on Mon, May 16, 2011 at 11:04:00 from 131.59.200.82

Awesome - second gear is a gear, so you met their intent. And a questionable win is a win, at least that's what I hear.

From Tracy on Mon, May 16, 2011 at 11:16:26 from 209.175.177.37

Burt, do you have a fast wit in person, or do you labor for 20 minutes before you write each comment?

True Joe, but your win was not questionable. You did cross the line before anyone else. I haven't looked at the results, but I bet the women who came in 1-3 were in my age division.

From SlowJoe on Mon, May 16, 2011 at 11:28:07 from 131.59.200.82

You're right, I killed all those people walking their dogs fair and square!

I think Burt's wit is that fast. I've been on the blog commenting at the same time as Burt and he gets 3 or 4 comments in for every one of mine.

From Tracy on Mon, May 16, 2011 at 11:43:27 from 209.175.177.37

You still beat 75 other people who weren't walking with a dog.

If I analyze the amount of times that his comments miss the mark, he probably does shoot from the hip when he comments. But Burt, to your credit, I do laugh even at the infrequent dumb ones.

I guess I might find out if Burt has a rapist's wit if I do go to AZ in June.

From Carolyn in Colorado on Mon, May 16, 2011 at 11:51:10 from 71.229.134.155

If you can run like that it second gear, I'd hate to see what you could do if you really tried. Great job on a speedy 5K in less than idea conditions and an AG win.

From Tracy on Mon, May 16, 2011 at 11:58:55 from 209.175.177.37

The sad thing is, Carolyn, that I could not have gone faster and I can't just blame the wind for that. That's about as good as it gets for now. Hopefully I have a renewed sense of running for this week.

From Burt on Mon, May 16, 2011 at 13:02:19 from 206.19.214.144

I've hired a team of writers that does all my jokes for me. The dumb ones are mine. And I know you used rapist's wit as a set up for a juicy comment, but you'll get no such satisfaction out of me!

From Tracy on Mon, May 16, 2011 at 13:17:41 from 209.175.177.37

Nothing like a little malapropism. Surely you know that's a movie quote.

From Burt on Mon, May 16, 2011 at 13:25:48 from 206.19.214.144

I don't believe I'm familiar with that movie, which surprises me. However, I did just finish reading Erik Erikson's Identity: Youth and Crisis, which had a picture of Michaelangelo's naked David on the cover. I had a fun time trying to explain that to my daughters.

Yeah, that has nothing to do with anything.

From Burt on Mon, May 16, 2011 at 13:26:44 from 206.19.214.144

Other than the fact that you just used a big word that I don't know, and I was trying to sound intellectual.

From Tracy on Mon, May 16, 2011 at 13:34:46 from 209.175.177.37

1. Malapropism is a literary term. Of course the nerdy English teacher uses it. It is when you confuse words to a hilarious and ridiculous result.

2. You've never seen Dumb and Dumber?

3. If you were reading something with a naked man on the cover around your daughters, I don't think that's too intellectual.

From Burt on Mon, May 16, 2011 at 13:40:30 from 206.19.214.144

I'm a little slow this morning. I thought you meant "Nothing like a little malapropism" was from a movie. Of course I've seen Dumb and Dumber. 10,000 times. I'm gonna hang at the bar. Put out the vibe.

From Tracy on Mon, May 16, 2011 at 13:58:38 from 209.175.177.37

Okay. I should have put the second sentence first. My apologies. I'm relieved you knew the reference. I will never question your intelligence again.

From SlowJoe on Mon, May 16, 2011 at 14:26:17 from 131.59.200.80

I want to be in Tracy's English class. I learned something, and I laughed. Usually it's either one or the other.

Nice way to burst out of the slump-dump-norun-funk Tracy!!

Nice job. Always good to run a 5k!

From april27 on Tue, May 17, 2011 at 12:12:31 from 165.138.243.1

man if it was any weather like my Sunday race I feel for you in a t-shirt and shorts! yuck!

From Tracy on Tue, May 17, 2011 at 12:14:50 from 209.175.177.37

It probably was similar. I was in Oak Park.

From seeaprilrun on Thu, May 19, 2011 at 19:17:50 from 174.70.177.86

A win is a win and deserved for running in that! Great job. I too have always wondered about Burt's wit. I find it intimidating.
