The weather today was pretty nice (even though it was a little on the hot side).  No rain, about 10 mph winds, 75 degrees and sunny.  The wind was not a factor.  The heat might have been a little bit of a factor, but not too much.

My race was solid.  I didn't overrely on my garmin, but it does measure a little long (mine said I ran 13.23) so my mile splits are not exactly accurate.  According to my garmin, my splits were 8:16, 7:47, 7:51, 7:56, 7:52, 7:54, 8:02, 7:47, 7:54, 8:23 (argh), 8:03, 8:34 (double argh), 8:00 and then the end at 6:47 pace.  But of course, that's probably not exactly what my actual splits were, because at one point I hit the lap button at a mile marker (about 30 seconds off at that point, which I didn't put in my splits) just to see if maybe the weaving in and out of traffic added a little distance, but the next mile marker was still about 10-15 seconds after my garmin beeped.  And after my 13th mile split, it measured .15 instead of .11.

Mile 10 I stopped for about 30 seconds so that I could actually drink some water instead of just spilling it all over my face and I stopped at mile 12 to do the same, I think for about 30 seconds.  And that right there was the difference between meeting my goal and not.

Live and learn.

Not gonna lie.  There's a part of me that's a little disappointed in my time.

But I'm pretty happy that my run was consistent.  I know that I have to work on my endurance because the end was hard to maintain.  And I'm pretty sure that I needed the water, so I can't blame myself for wanting to drink.

And then my TMI for today:  as soon as I crossed the finish line, I got a sudden urge to pee.  It was a few seconds before I realized that I actually WAS peeing.  THAT has never happened to me.  I tried standing still and that helped.  I got to the bathroom a little too late, but I was able to hold most of it.  I just rinsed myself off and then went outside to find my people.  Gross.

I feel bad because I dropped my running partner like a hot potato at mile 6, but I'm glad I did.  He finished just under 2 hours.  My brother also ran through a knee injury.  He thought he would run/walk, but ended up running the whole thing, albeit slowly.

But there are some other things that I'm really excited about.  I was 15th in my age division.  I was in the top 2.7% of women overall (I was 92nd out of 3340).  So that's impressive.

Great job Tracy! Your time was solid and your splits were very consistent! I have a hard time with drinking too--I just try to get a little down at every aid station since I spill most of it LOL! Great placement--you rocked it!

Great race, Tracy! I think that's a great time. And I think with temperatures like that, you really needed to drink the water. Congratulations on a great race!

Congratulations Tracy, it sounds like you pushed it hard to the end! Your short term running goals said finish in the 140's and you did! a 4 min PR is awesome!!

I think you did awesome Tracy and ran a good solid race! And 75 degrees and sunny is a lot warmer than optimal - I'm sure you needed and benefited from those water breaks! Top 2.7% of women - *** WOW *** YOU ROCK!

Nice job Tracy! You were probably right there at 1:45 for 13.1 but they always tack on mileage, I swear! I think 75 degrees is a factor too, the heat slows you down and you wouldn't have had to drink as much. And 92 out of over 3 thousand women is ridiculously good, very impressive.

Since you mentioned it first, I think I might have leaked a few drops after my 10K too - it was weird, like I was so exhausted that the muscles were too tired to hold it in. Fortunately I was soaked with sweat already. There, now you're not alone.

Great job! I think next year I will come down and run this one too. IMpressive time and ranking!

Thanks everyone!

So how DO you drink water out of a cup while running? I can't get more than a few drops into my mouth. Do I just throw the water up towards my open mouth? Maybe I'll practice that :)

And Joe, I like the confession. I have no shame. I told pretty much everyone that I ran with.

From Snoqualmie on Sun, May 02, 2010 at 12:47:58 from 24.18.192.33

Impressive indeed!! (the percentile) You ran very well and should be very proud. Congratulations!

I admit I walk through every water stop, not just for the water, but to help with my endurance (give the legs a brief break). But what I'm told is that you pinch the top of the cup into a single straight line so it "closes," and drink from one end of the line. I think I'd have to practice in non-race conditions.

Awesome race Tracy! 75 degrees is a pretty warm day when you are running that distance at the pace you ran. You have nothing to be disappointed about. Congrats!

Very nice race, Tracy! Can't believe its so warm there! Your time and percentile ranking are very nice; you deserve to feel proud. Congratulatins!

Aha, Sno! I knew there was something that I was just not well-versed enough about racing (and not smart enough to reason out) on my own. I will have to try that--makes perfect sense.

Thanks Stacy and Auntie--75 degrees is about par for the course for us this time of the year.

Great job! Your time is impressive to me, congratulations on a PR! I am pretty good at drinking during a race and sno is right, you have to pinch the cup flat at the top and slowly pour a small stream in at a time. I take a long time to drink while running, I run with my cup for awhile past the aid station to get it all down. I am not as fast as you so I probably slow down a bit more to get the liquid down but I always run through the drinking process.
